When it comes to luxury airline travel, many people realize that you get what you pay for. If you want a higher degree of safety and comfort when flying, you need to put more money down. Most people eventually reach a maximum price point. For those who are willing to go above and beyond the normal limits of luxury travel, here are the five more expensive private jets in the skies today.

1: Airbus A380

The most expensive private jet in the world is the Airbus A380, which comes in at a whopping $500 million dollars. This jet is owned by Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal of Saudi Arabia and is just one of several high-end luxury jets that he owns. The jet is referred to as “the kingdom in the sky” and its luxuries include gold plating on all the interior surfaces. Other amenities include a Turkish bath and a garage where the Prince can store his Rolls-Royce.

2: Airbus A340-300

Coming in at a price of just under $450 million, the Airbus A340-300 is owned by the Russian billionaire Alisher Usmanov, the world’s 58th richest person. Not only is this jet the second most expensive private aircraft in the world, but it is also the largest private jet in Russia, even beating out the planes owned by Vladimir Putin. As can be expected for something this pricey, it contains several custom security systems that boost the price tag significantly.

3: Boeing 747-430

The Boeing 747-430 is a customized jet designed by Boeing for the Sultan of Brunei. Coming in with a price tag of $233 million, this jet represents a modified Boeing 747 with gold plating on almost everything. The interior is as spacious as a house, with a living room, bedroom, private bathroom, and much more. Each of the multiple bathrooms includes a solid gold washbasin, completing the image of luxury.

4: Boeing 747-400

Believe it or not, Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal of Saudi Arabia owns not one but two of the most expensive private jets in the world. His less expensive plane, the Boeing 747-400, prices out at $220 million and is large enough to be compared to a full hotel suite. The entire interior of the Boeing jet has been stripped out and recrafted to create a massive customized interior.

5: Boeing 767-33A/ER

Russian businessman Roman Abramovich owns the last private jet on our list, with an aircraft that comes out to “only” $170 million. Among the many luxury features of this jet includes a 30-seat dining room and a massive master bedroom. Abramovich has at time used the private jet to fly his entire football team from one game to another, no doubt allowing that team a very relaxing trip.

While most people reading this will probably never get to spend hundreds of millions of dollars plating the interior of a private jet with gold, these listings do show the extent that some people will go to in order to fly in true luxury. With some creativity and financial investment, a private aircraft can be transformed into something truly unique.
